Predictions: BFL 57

Every time the organization puts on an event, they bring on a guest analyst who shares their take on the matchups and offers picks for every fight on the card.

For BFL 57, Gagan Gill has stepped in to provide his predictions and analysis for the 10 MMA bouts on the card.

In the co-main event of BFL 56, Gill became the new BFL featherweight champion, defeating Nick Ghaeni by submission in the second round. Gill improved his professional record to 2-0, and remains one of the most promising, young prospects in Western Canada. His next time entering the cage will be Oct. 5 when he takes on Cleveland Bentley at Mamba Fight Night 5.

Here are Gill's predictions for BFL 57:

Jamey-Lyn Horth Wessels (1-0) vs Christina Ricker (0-0): Fight Preview

"Horth Wessels comes from the same camp as Gwyn Berry and they always come in shape. I just feel Horth Wessels is going to be too athletic, too strong, have better striking and just be able to win the fight wherever it goes."

Prediction: Horth Wessels wins by unanimous decision.

Austin Batra (4-1) vs Perry Hayer (5-7): Fight Preview

"Batra is a great wrestler, but didn't used to be that strong of a striker when he was training at my gym. He's probably made some improvements in that area now. Hayer is more of a kick-boxer and likes to stay long, but is susceptible to getting knocked out."

Prediction: Batra wins by TKO in the first round.

Gwyn Berry (4-1) vs Marlan Hall (3-2): Fight Preview

"Berry trains with a good group of guys up at The Sound, and he's a good striker and keeps it long. I've actually fought Hall before and he's a tough fighter. He's turned into more of a striker now, while back then he was more of a grappler."

Prediction: Hall wins by TKO in the second round.

James Foster (2-0) vs Mike Morley (0-0)

"Foster is a very aggressive fighter and I think he'll just be too much for Morley."

Prediction: Foster wins by TKO in the first round.

Casey O'Leary (3-3) vs Brandon Labrecque (2-1)

"Labrecque is the better striker and more technical fighter, but I feel like O'Leary is a little more gritty and tougher."

Projection: Labrecque earns a unanimous-decision victory.

Manny Fernandez (2-1) vs Dale Russell (2-4)

"After watching Russell battle Austin Batra, he came across as a gritty, resilient competitor—I expect him to edge out a decision."

Projection: Russell wins via unanimous decision.

Jason Giroux (0-0) vs Christopher Donald (0-0)

"Giroux has stacked plenty of jiu-jitsu competition and tournament experience, and I believe his grappling edge will be the difference."

Projection: Giroux secures a first-round submission.

Jordan Cabrejos (1-0-1) vs Derrick Laing (0-0)

"Laing's kickboxing bout left a strong impression—his power and striking game look ready to carry him through his pro debut."

Projection: Laing wins by unanimous decision.

Mark Purdy (1-0) vs Flint Radatzke (1-0)

"Purdy is a complete fighter who can end the contest from either position, and he trains at Lions MMA—a top-notch camp." – MMA Empire

MMA Empire Projection: Purdy claims a second-round TKO victory.

Brett Zalapski (1-2) vs Jesse Dhaliwal (0-0)

"Zalapski attacks with intensity and carries serious power; I see him finishing Dhaliwal inside the opening round."

Projection: Zalapski wins by TKO in round one.
