Each event, there will be a “guest predictor” who will offer their insight into the event and provide their predictions for each MMA bout.
For BFL 59, Mitch Strazzella has stepped in to provide his predictions and analysis for the eight MMA bouts on the card.
Strazzella holds a 2-2 amateur record, and is a regular in the BFL promotion. His most recent bout was for the BFL amateur bantamweight title, which he went on to drop a tough loss to Gio Platon at BFL 58. Strazzella holds wins over Justin Knoepfli and Joshua Lam, and is expected to be back in the cage at BFL 60 in March.
Here are Strazzella’s predictions for BFL 59:
Cole Smith (5-0) vs Tyler Wilson (5-1): Fight Preview
“Smith is legit. This we know. Solid record, even in amateur. Wilson looks legit as well. I trained with Tyler Dolby years ago and know how good he is, and Smith made really quick work of him. Smith’s big, strong, has really good stand-up and jiu-jitsu. Wilson has all finishes and also a great amateur career. Wilson has three rear-naked choke finishes, and finishes on the feet so we know he’s well-rounded.”
Prediction: Smith wins by TKO in the third round.
Jared Revel (7-2) vs George Davis (2-1): Fight Preview
“I saw Revel’s last fight in May after my fight, which was a huge knockout. I literally got chills; it was massive. The place erupted. He’s a brick s&$! house. I’m not sure who Davis is, but he’s fighting for a title early in his pro career.”
Prediction: Revels wins by TKO in the first round.
Dejan Kajic (9-7-2, 1 NC) vs Dominique Smith (2-3): Fight Preview
“Kajic is the favourite, as he should be, coming off a win over Chris Anderson. He just has too much experience.”
Prediction: Kajic wins by TKO in the first round.
Howie Tan (1-0) vs James Clarke (2-3)
“These guys both look legit, regardless of record. There’s quite a bit of hype around Tan, and I’m buying into it.”
Prediction: Tan wins by unanimous decision.
Hugh Gleeson (6-2-1) vs Gursharan Singh (2-1)
“Their first fight was a war, with Gleeson walking away with the win after a stoppage in the third round. It could be more or less the same fight, and Singh hasn’t fought since. We’ll see who makes the adjustments.”
Prediction: Gleeson wins by TKO in the second round.
Kody Smith (4-2) vs Wan Allard (0-5)
“I’ve seen Smith before and he scares me. Just look at the guy. Not much has come up on Wan Allard, but he better be ready to rock.”
Prediction: Smith wins by knockout in the first round.
Keith Robinson (1-4) vs Navid Mirzaiy (2-6)
“If I base this fight off records, I still think this is a war and a fun fight. These seem like two straight-at-you fighters that go out on their shield. And there’s never any losers in that regard.”
Prediction: Robinson wins by unanimous decision.
Mark Purdy (2-0) vs Omar Waddell (0-0)
“I couldn’t find any info on Waddell, but Purdy seems to be pretty well rounded.”
Prediction: Purdy wins by submission in the second round.
