The “Savage” Gillian Robertson received some good news this week, as she is set for her first fight of 2021.
At only 25 years old, Robertson will be stepping into the octagon for an insane tenth time in her young career. The Din Thomas prodigy is looking to knock off the former Invicta FC star, and 1-0 in UFC, Miranda Maverick.
“I’m really excited about this match up,” Robertson told MMA Empire.
“Miranda is a gamer like me, she’s going to always compete, always be active, in it for the love of the sport. I respect that about her.”
Maverick impressed in her debut, a dominant win over Liana Jojua (first round doctor stoppage) at UFC 254. Although on an impressive six-fight win streak, Robertson feels she possesses the advantage of skills in this one.
“We have a similar style,” Robertson said.
“Top-heavy grapplers who like to sit on top, do damage, then get our submissions. I feel like I’m going to be a little bit better than her, no matter what it’ll be a competitive matchup.”
Although nine fights into her UFC career, Robertson relished in the idea of taking out Maverick’s win streak, even if Maverick is new to the UFC’s bright lights. The Canadian has never shied away from the tough fights, it fuels her.
“I just love the game,” Robertson said.
“I love to fight, I love to be able to perform. Every opportunity I’m thankful for. They are all winnable matchups for me. It may not have been my night on my losses, but I’d still take those fights again.”
