It’ll be Canada vs. Japan under the main event spotlight Saturday night.
The 34-year-old Assenza, fighting out of Burlington, Ont., returns to competing under the BTC Fight Promotions umbrella for the first time since BTC 9. The former BTC lightweight champion last fought under this promotional banner in Feb. 2020.
A whole host of feelings pop up for Assenza when discussing this reintegration into the BTC Fight Promotions fold.
“It’s nice; BTC is my home,” said Assenza in an interview with MMA Empire.
“I’ve got a lot of local fans that are always asking me, when are you fighting close again? The opponents are definitely something that is a bit of an issue because I either want to be fighting undefeated top prospects or maybe UFC vets that are close to getting back. That’s typically like the two types of opponents that I’m always looking for. Just it’s a little bit harder with everything, Canada being locked down for a bit and all that kind of stuff. Definitely glad to be back, happy with my opponent, and I’m glad that BTC could get me a guy like this.”
