Cody Chovancek believes BTC 16 matchup with Jake Geauvreau was the perfect fight to make

The featherweight division in MMA has always been one of the most exciting divisions in the sport and as the Canadian MMA scene is starting to pick up steam again this remains more true than ever.

This Saturday night, Cody Chovancek (2-0) will put his unblemished record on the line against a fellow undefeated young gun in Jake Geauvreau (2-0) in the main event of BTC 16: Challengers Series 1 in Burlington, Ont.

This is a fight Chovancek has been eyeing for quite a while and he even called out Geauvreau after picking up his second professional win back in March.

“As I said in the call out, I signed to fight him once before and said yes to him twice. It was the fight to make happen,” said Chovancek in an interview with MMA Empire.

“It was perfect timing; now we are both 2-0 and it’s an exciting fight. We both have a 100 per cent finishing rate between the two of us. It’s going to be a banger for sure.”

While Chovancek is just 2-0, he was more than ecstatic to be fighting in the main event in just his third professional fight.

“It was huge. To be on the main event on such a big card in the first Challengers Series, it was a huge honour. There are so many talented guys on the card, some of my teammates, and it is super cool.”
