Neal Anderson has confirmed he's facing Maged Hammo again in a highly anticipated rematch.
Edmonton, Alta.'s Anderson (11-4) will face off against Lethbridge, Alta.'s Hammo (10-6-1) in a rematch for the Unified MMA featherweight title at Unified MMA 45 on Friday night in Edmonton.
At 34, Anderson has competed under the Unified MMA banner for more than a decade, and he says finally capturing a championship belt for the organization would represent a meaningful milestone.
"That would be pretty cool to win the belt with them. I've been fighting for them forever, so yeah, that would be awesome," Anderson told MMA Empire in an interview.
With Anderson and Hammo having already shared the cage for over 15 minutes, Anderson noted there are elements from that bout he plans to factor into their rematch.
Still, Anderson emphasized that he anticipates seeing a revised approach from Hammo and doesn't intend to rely too heavily on what he observed in their initial matchup.
"For sure I think there's stuff to take away from that. I've already fought him, so I already know what it's like to be in there with him. But at the same time you don't want to expect the same thing. Obviously, he's fought me too, so he's going to make adjustments. He might do something totally different this time. The first time I fought him I thought he was more of a striker. He had a bunch of pro boxing fights kind of recently," Anderson explained.
"Going into that fight, neither one of us had fought MMA in like two years, but during that time he had two or three pro boxing fights or something. I was thinking oh, well this guy's obviously a striker, so I was expecting more of a striker. Then I found out after the fight that he's kind of known as a tricky jiu-jitsu guy. Now I know that, but you've got to be prepared for everything."
