Who’s Next… BFL 70

BFL 70 saw Serhiy Sidey defend his BFL bantamweight title for the first time, while also seeing a possible new contender for the belt emerge in Austin Russell.

Keep in mind, in most cases, the matchups listed here are hypothetical and have not been announced or rumored to be taking place, unless otherwise noted.

Let us know your thoughts on who should be next for the big winners and the rest of the card, and who you think would win our hypothetical matchups.

Serhiy Sidey (6-1) vs. Austin Russell (3-0)

Sidey took down another top prospect in his successful BFL bantamweight title defence, finishing Ali Wasuk via TKO in the fourth round. There’s likely a long list of potential opponents for Sidey next, but with Russell having been the co-main event it feels like that was a number one contender bout.

Austin Russell (3-0) vs. Serhiy Sidey (6-1)

Amidst all the pre-fight and in-fight controversy, Russell overcame it all to earn the decision win over Gio Platon. If this was indeed a number one contender bout, Russell is likely next in line for a shot at the champion.

Bryce Gougeon (2-2-1) vs. Keanan Kellar (2-2)

Gougeon was impressive in victory, submitting Rafael Palomeque in the first round. There are several quality options for Gougeon to face next, but a matchup with Kellar would make for an exciting fight for the fans.

Jayden Martin (1-1) vs. Derrick Laing (1-0)

Martin’s return to action following a serious injury couldn’t have gone any better as he took less than 20 seconds to put away Chester Post. Finding opponents for Martin could be a tough task as he’s far more talented and experienced than his record.  A matchup with Laing would be a great test for both fighters and give fans a look at two up-and-coming prospects.

Dylan Schellenberg (1-2) vs. Rafael Palomeque (2-4)

Schellenberg earned his first professional win in big upset fashion, submitting Christian Tremayne in the first round. Schellenberg has faced nothing but tough opponents to start his professional career, so it’s probably safe to assume the trend will continue. Palomeque would certainly test his ground game.

Maxime Soucy (2-1) vs. Oguzhan Yalcin (1-0)

Soucy showed little to no signs of rust in his first bout in over three years, dominating Makinde Adeyemi in a unanimous decision. With Soucy being from Quebec, it remains to be seen if he will be back in the BFL cage or not. If he is, a matchup with the elite wrestler Yalcin would make sense.

Oguzhan Yalcin (1-0) vs. Maxime Soucy (2-1)

Yalcin picked up his professional career right where he left off as an amateur, utilizing his strong wrestling base to earn the win. Yalcin is ready to take a step up in competition, and Soucy would be a great litmus test.

On the rebound

Christian Tremayne (3-2) vs. Nicolas Ouellet (2-0)

Caleb Ermine (0-1) vs. Russ McCumber (1-0)
