After two very successful shows, Samourai MMA is back with their third event in Samourai MMA 3. The card features a great mix of young prospects and long-time veterans. Check out my predictions for the card below.
Frederik Dupras (4-1) vs. Carlos Espinosa (6-6): PRO Bantamweight DUPRAS PREVIEW
Since a three-year layoff ended in 2021, Dupras and that dangerous submission game have looked unstoppable. This feels like a perfect matchup for him here as well, and I expect him to add another submission to the record.
Prediction: Dupras wins via submission.
Maxime Poulin (5-2) vs. Lenny Wheeler (9-6): PRO Featherweight
At one point Wheeler was looking like one of Canada’s next top prospects, but ended up going on a three-fight losing skid from 2016-2017 and has not competed since. The big question mark is which version of Wheeler are we going to see? Poulin has been more active of late and always poses a threat on the mat.
Prediction: Poulin wins via submission.
Robert Seres (5-3) vs. Patrick Connors (5-4): PRO Lightweight
After a rough four-fight losing streak, Connor seems to have found his footing with two straight wins coming in here. Seres, on the other hand, is coming off a big win of his own at Samourai MMA 2 in his first action since 2018. If Seres can successfully deal with the height and reach advantage of Connors, I think he will come out on top.
Prediction: Seres wins via submission.
Hugo Guillon (2-1) vs. Mathieu Langlais (2-3): PRO Light Heavyweight
I can’t see this fight lasting very long at all. It could very well come down to who lands the first clean shot.
Prediction: Guillon wins via knockout.
Tommy Morrisson (1-0) vs. Diego Silva (5-3): PRO Flyweight
Morrisson was originally scheduled to face Pierre Thivierge on this card, but he was forced out due to injury. Now Morrisson faces a much more experienced opponent in Silva, albeit on short notice. It’s a massive jump in competition for Morrisson in only his second professional fight and while I expect it will be very competitive, I think he gets the nod.
Prediction: Morrisson wins via decision.
Mehdi Zeidvand (1-0) vs. Samuel Giguere (0-3): PRO Featherweight
As long as he doesn’t get caught early, I expect Zeidvand to roll in this one, utilizing that elite wrestling base.
Prediction: Zeidvand wins via TKO.
Allan Girard (0-0) vs. Jonathan Ramsay (0-0): PRO Welterweight
I don’t know too much on Ramsay at all, so I’m siding with Girard for that reason.
Prediction: Girard wins via TKO.
