Predictions: FLA 5

The FLA 5 card was originally set to take place last month, but was postponed to tomorrow night due to a hurricane watch on the east coast. Fortunately, the entire card stayed intact, which is headlined by top prospect Jerico MacPhee welcoming Blake Oswald to the professional ranks. Check out my predictions for the entire card below.

Jerico MacPhee (2-1) vs. Blake Oswald (0-0): PRO Lightweight FIGHT PREVIEW

There’s not much to go off in regards to what Oswald brings to the table other than he comes out of a solid camp. With that being said, MacPhee is one of the brightest prospects in Canada and it’s hard to ignore the significant experience edge he’s going to have here.

Prediction: MacPhee wins via TKO.

Luc De Ste Croix (3-0) vs. Josh LeBlanc (2-1): AMATEUR Lightweight DE STE CROIX PREVIEW, LEBLANC PREVIEW

De Ste Croix has looked unstoppable so far in his amateur career, but LeBlanc may be his toughest test yet. While I do think LeBlanc is going to make this competitive, I think De Ste Croix remains undefeated here.

Prediction: De Ste Croix wins via decision.

Cam Nelson (2-0) vs. Michael William Adams (0-0): AMATEUR Welterweight

With Adams making his amateur debut here, he is a complete wildcard. I will have to side with Nelson simply due to the experience of being in the cage twice.

Prediction: Nelson wins via submission.

Rory Gillis (1-0) vs. Colton Grant-Hose (0-2): AMATEUR Middleweight

It’s been over 10 years since Grant-Hose last stepped in the cage, so is he going to be better than he’s ever been or is he going to be suffering from severe ring rust? I have to side with the more recently-active Gillis.

Prediction: Gillis wins via decision.

Brady MacDonald (2-2) vs. Gavin Costa (1-1): AMATEUR Bantamweight

This should be a pretty entertaining fight with two guys most likely looking to take it to the ground. I think Costa’s wrestling will be superior here, leading him to the victory.

Prediction: Costa wins via submission.

Abdel Abdelaziz (0-1) vs. Connor Sorensen (1-0): AMATEUR Featherweight

With only one fight each under their belts, there’s not a lot to go off for either guy. I’m going to side with Sorensen, however, coming out of the better camp.

Prediction: Sorensen wins via submission.

Connor Crosby (1-0) vs. Jimmy Pineault (0-1): AMATEUR Lightweight

Again, not much to go off here with only one fight each, but I believe the ground game of Crosby will be the difference-maker.

Prediction: Crosby wins via submission.

Thomas Johnson (0-1) vs. Mike Macleod (0-1): AMATEUR Middleweight

There is not much to go off for either guy again here, although both of them faced pretty stiff tests in their debuts. I’m going to side with Johnson to pick up his first win here.

Prediction: Johnson wins via TKO.

Khari Wood (0-0) vs. Zach Raymond (1-0): AMATEUR Featherweight

With Wood making his debut here, he’s a wildcard. But with that being said, Raymond looks like a promising up-and-comer, so I think he gets the job done.

Prediction: Raymond wins via TKO.

Kyle Sutherland (1-0) vs. Travis McGilligan (0-0): AMATEUR Welterweight

McGilligan is making his debut here, so it’s impossible to know what he brings to the table. I will side with Sutherland.

Prediction: Sutherland wins via decision.

Chris Boyd (0-0) vs. Vraj Brahmbatt (0-0): AMATEUR Lightweight

Two guys making their debuts is a complete coin flip for me. I’m going with Brahmbatt.

Prediction: Brahmbatt wins via TKO.
