Alex Morgan set to take advantage of long overdue UFC opportunity on DWCS

Alex Morgan has been fighting since 2013 and has reached the pinnacle of the Canadian MMA scene. He is a former TKO, LAMMQ & Samourai MMA featherweight champion, and last November took to his Instagram and asked what he had to do to get a shot in the UFC.

The time has come for Blainville, Que.’s Morgan (11-4) as he will fight Blake Bilder (6-0-1) in featherweight action tomorrow night on Dana White’s Contender Series (DWCS) with a UFC contract on the line.

“I’ve been preparing since the Samourai fight for a short-notice opportunity. I’ve been in training camp for eight months. I was always ready to fight if somebody pulled out of a UFC fight, so I keep myself in shape and trained hard, not burning myself but training hard,” said Morgan in an interview with MMA Empire.

“I keep myself in training camp, not party at all. I’m focusing on the mission. Since I got the call in July I knew I had a date and an opponent and I take it very seriously and we are ready. This is a big opportunity for me I have been waiting for this for a long time and we are ready to take it.”

Morgan, 31, knows he has a tough opponent in Bilder who is the current CFFC featherweight champion, but Morgan feels that his experience in the cage is one of the reasons he will leave the UFC Apex on Tuesday night with a contract.

“This guy is a good, complete fighter. We take it very seriously. He’s a CFFC champ, so you know he’s good. I know he has less experience than me, I got more experience. We made a good game plan and I believe that my technique will make me be better than him,” said Morgan.

“Yeah, he’s a good fighter I didn’t expect but having a good fight in this organization. If you know me you know I never back down from good, hard fights. That’s why I’m 11-4. I’m not undefeated like him, but look who I have fought; I have fought the best and you know I got the experience, I just need to focus. That’s why I came to Vegas early to get in my zone and have fun and enjoy the process. I feel confident about this fight. I know it is going to be a good matchup and we are ready.”
