This contest is shaping up to be a fight of the night contender.
Huntsville, Ont.'s Kyle Nelson (13-4) puts his skills on the line against Jai Herbert (11-4) in lightweight competition at UFC Fight Night 208 on Saturday evening in London, England.
After spending most of his career fighting at featherweight, Nelson, 31, is stepping up to lightweight with this bout against Herbert serving as his debut at the new weight class.
Based on his team's review of Herbert and his camp's preparation, Nelson feels confident about his route to success on fight night.
"We're constantly refining my own game and planning. I've studied my opponent's bouts to look for unique tactics or anything notable, then I hand it over to my coaches and corner crew to break down his fights and develop the exact strategy," Nelson told MMA Empire in an interview.
"I believe we've got a solid read on Jai (Herbert) and I think our game plan is perfectly suited to outmaneuver him. I'm just eager to get out there and compete."
With just six decisions between them across their combined records, the fight promises plenty of back-and-forth action when Nelson and Herbert lock horns.
Nelson also expects this bout could put some additional cash into his bank account.
"I'll adapt to whatever he brings. If he wants to trade strikes, I'm fully open to that. I'd consider it a poor choice on his end, but honestly, let's make it happen. Let's chase that bonus. I'm after the win bonus plus the performance bonus."
