Christian Larsen ready for his long overdue step up in competition in Unified MMA 46 main event

Unified MMA returns to their home base at the River Cree Resort and Casino in Edmonton, Alta. on Friday night with another stacked card.

The Unified MMA 46 main event sees Unified MMA heavyweight champion Christian Larsen (7-2) defend his title against PFL veteran and former CFFC heavyweight champion Jamelle Jones (12-8).

Larsen, 35, is coming off his quickest performance to date, a 37-second knockout of Grayson Wells back at Unified MMA 45 this past May, but now faces a big step up in competition this time around.

“The jump in competition is something that I’ve been trying to pull off the last few years,” said Larsen in an interview with MMA Empire.

“For the last couple of fights, we’ve been looking for stronger opponents. With Rashad Coulter pulling out, originally we were talking to Alexander Nicholson for this one, but that didn’t work out, so I’ve been trying to fight some tough guys. Jamelle is as tough as they come. He’s a gamer; I’m not too concerned about him backing out or not being here, so I was looking forward to it as soon as he accepted the fight.”

Records and experience aside, Larsen feels this will be an entertaining matchup, not just for him but for the fans as well.

“It’s not like I singled out Jamelle or picked his name out of a hat. He fit the mold, he was willing to fight and that’s kind of what it is. I think, stylistically, it will be a fun matchup. We both hit hard, we both meet in the middle. You know, there’s not a whole lot of difference. We are both finishers and we both put people away. It should be exciting from the audience point of view for sure.”
