Unified MMA brings its action back to familiar territory at Edmonton, Alberta's River Cree Resort and Casino on Friday night for yet another loaded lineup.
The Unified MMA 46 head bout features heavyweight champion Christian Larsen (7-2) putting his crown on the line against PFL veteran and ex-CFFC heavyweight titleholder Jamelle Jones (12-8).
Larsen, 35, enters the bout riding momentum from his fastest win yet—a lightning 37-second stoppage of Grayson Wells at Unified MMA 45 this past May—but now confronts a notable leap in quality of opposition.
"Raising the level has been my goal for several years now," Larsen told MMA Empire during a recent interview.
"Over the last few fights we've been searching for tougher competition. After Rashad Coulter stepped away, we initially discussed a bout with Alexander Nicholson, but that fell through. I've been seeking out serious challenges, and Jamelle fits that bill perfectly. He's a real competitor—I have zero doubts he'll show up, which is why I was excited the moment he agreed to fight."
Beyond the record books and resume, Larsen anticipates a compelling contest that should thrill both fighters and spectators alike.
"This wasn't about me picking a random name out of a hat. Jamelle matched what I was looking for—he was ready to fight, and that's all it takes. From a stylistic standpoint, I believe this will be a great matchup. Both of us throw heavy punches and we tend to meet in the center of the cage. There's not much separating us. We're both finishers who know how to end fights. I'm confident it'll be a thrilling watch for the audience."
