Morgan Rhynes wants to silence the buzz surrounding one of Canada's most promising bantamweights.
The Charlottetown, P.E.I.-based Rhynes (5-5) is set to clash with Teshay Gouthro (6-1) in what promises to be a compelling bantamweight contest at Unified MMA 48 in Toronto, Ont. on Friday evening.
Rhynes, 32, considers this to be the most important bout of his career for several reasons.
"There are a few factors at play. Teshay himself as an opponent is one of them. Obviously, he's been making waves lately. He sits at 6-1 professionally. He's also rated as the top-ranked Ontario bantamweight on Tapology, so that alone makes this significant," said Rhynes during an interview with MMA Empire.
"Plus, having it in Toronto and being broadcast live on UFC Fight Pass is a major draw. Unified MMA is Canada's premier promotion. All of that together makes this a fantastic opportunity."
Gouthro has never been finished either as a pro or amateur, and Rhynes intends to change that, while simultaneously recording his fifth career stoppage.
"I'm going for a finish. I don't care how it happens, and honestly, we're both thinking the same way about this bout," Rhynes explained.
"I picture it could be one of those highlight-reel knockouts. When both fighters share that mindset, you know you're in for an entertaining fight."
