Morgan Rhynes hopes to be the first to finish Teshay Gouthro at Unified MMA 48

Morgan Rhynes will look to put a halt to the hype of one of Canada’s top bantamweight prospects.

Charlottetown, P.E.I.’s Rhynes (5-5) will take on Teshay Gouthro (6-1) in an intriguing bantamweight matchup at Unified MMA 48 in Toronto, Ont. on Friday night.

Rhynes, 32, said this matchup feels like the biggest fight of his career for a multitude of reasons.

“There’s a few different reasons. Teshay as an opponent would be one of them. Obviously, he’s doing big things right now. He’s 6-1 as a pro. On Tapology, he’s ranked as the number one bantamweight in Ontario, so those reasons alone,” said Rhynes in an interview with MMA Empire.

“Also, with it being in Toronto, being streamed live on UFC Fight Pass is obviously a pretty big deal. Just Unified MMA itself being Canada’s biggest organization. Yeah, I just look at it as an amazing opportunity.”

While Gouthro has yet to be finished as a professional or amateur, Rhynes will look to be the first man to do so, and also add his fifth career finish to his resume.

“My outcome is a finish. I don’t care how it comes, but I have the same view on this fight as he does,” said Rhynes.

“I think that it could be a highlight reel knockout. I guess when two guys both have that same idea you’re looking at an exciting fight.”
