Teshay Gouthro looking to move one step closer to bantamweight title shot at Unified MMA 48

Teshay Gouthro is one of Canada’s top bantamweight prospects and he will look to keep that momentum rolling.

St. Catharines, Ont.’s Gouthro (6-1) will battle Morgan Rhynes (5-5) in a bantamweight clash at Unified MMA 48 on Friday night in Toronto, Ont.

After signing a multi-fight deal with Unified MMA, Gouthro, 28, said he was supposed to have a title shot right away, but the proposed matchup didn’t come to fruition this time around.

“I don’t know if I’m allowed to say, but I guess they said if Noah Ali doesn’t take this fight after I smash Morgan then they’re going to strip him,” said Gouthro in an interview with MMA Empire.

“Just give me a title shot, find someone else and we’ll fight for it. Then I’ll end up a Unified champ. That’s ideally what I’m looking at.”

Since his professional debut, Gouthro has been quietly climbing the bantamweight rankings, which hasn’t gone unnoticed as Rhynes took to social media to credit Gouthro’s spot in the division.

Gouthro said, after seeing the post, he’s much more motivated for the fight now.

“Clearly he’s motivated, and a motivated guy that has nothing to lose is a dangerous guy. So at first when I took this fight, I wasn’t as motivated because I was like I’ll be able to beat this guy everywhere, which I still will be, but it made me train a lot harder for this guy. It gave me that extra motivation,” said Gouthro.

“I wasn’t as motivated because I thought I could smoke him. Then seeing that I’m like fuck okay, I’ve got to really smoke him and dominate him because, on paper, I should dominate him, right. I should fucking finish him. It’s going to be hard, but I’m going to finish him. That’s it.”
