Ryan Ford excited for long overdue return to MMA at Unified MMA 43

This Friday you will be looking at the Real Deal.

Canadian MMA veteran Ryan Ford (22-5) makes his return to the cage as he takes on Dawond Pickney (18-15) at Unified MMA 43 in Edmonton, Alta.

Ford, 39, is a pioneer who helped build up the Canadian MMA scene back in the late 2000s & early 2010s where he won world titles, fought the best of the best (Pete Spratt, Karo Parysan, Douglas Lima, Jake Shields), and comprised an impressive record in MMA.

Ford stepped away from MMA and made a transition to boxing back in 2017, but Ford said he got tired of the politics in boxing and, due to the pandemic, hadn’t fought in two years.

“It’s always been in my head of getting back in the cage, it’s just a matter of when,” said Ford in an interview with MMA Empire.

“I was kind of getting bored of just doing boxing training. I just stepped it up and got back to kicking, got back to wrestling, and jiu-jitsu and I was like you know what this year I am just going to fight. I’m going to fight MMA or boxing. If it makes dollars it makes sense.”
