Aaron Jeffery looking to jump the line at Bellator 284

Things couldn’t be going any better for Canada’s Aaron Jeffery.

After years of traveling through the regional scenes in both Canada and the United States, Jeffery has found himself in the big leagues fighting for Bellator MMA. Now, Jeffery (12-3) faces the biggest fight of his career, taking on former middleweight title challenger Austin Vanderford (11-1) at Bellator 284 this Friday night on short notice.

Jeffery, 29, has been vocal about fighting Vanderford before and when the opportunity came he jumped on it.

“The guy Austin was supposed to fight was under the same management as me and I had talked about fighting Austin before and so when they (Bellator) heard the guy was injured they reached out to me and said are you serious about wanting that fight and I said yes, for sure. Austin accepted the fight and we got confirmation from Bellator and now here we are,” Jeffery said in an interview with MMA Empire.

Jeffery knows this is a big opportunity for him to get his name out there to a broader audience and move up the Bellator middleweight rankings quickly.

“It’s huge. That’s pretty much all I can say; it’s huge. He’s a big-name guy, he’s ranked number two for a reason and he just fought for the title. It’s a big step up for me, I’m kind of jumping the line here.”

Not only is this a big fight in the career for Jeffery but he said he loves the short notice aspect of this fight as he has no real time to worry about Vanderford and just gets to step inside the Bellator cage and perform.

“For sure a couple of my last fights were really long training camps. The Contenders Series fight we signed the contract to fight and that was five months out and the last fight was two and half months out. So it’s a lot of time to think about one person, one place, and one date, so it’s nice to come in on short notice and not have too much stress.”
