Unified MMA 40 goes down live tonight from the River Cree Resort and Casino just outside Edmonton in Enoch, Alberta. It’s been over 18 months since the last MMA event in Edmonton due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In the main event, Graham Park defends his Unified MMA light heavyweight title against Neil Berry, and in the co-main event Neal Anderson and Maged Hammo clash for the vacant featherweight title.
The event is sold out once again, but fans can catch the entire card live as Unified MMA debuts on UFC Fight Pass. MMA Empire will be cageside with a live play-by-play for those who are unable to watch live.

Pro Light-Heavyweight Title Fight: Graham Park (7-2) vs. Neil Berry (9-9)
Round 1: They feel each other out and Park lands a kick to the body before tying him up against the cage. Park looks for the takedown and Berry briefly threatens with a guillotine. They pop back up and jockey for position against the cage. Park with the body lock and Berry frees himself and presses Park against the cage. Berry with good head pressure and lands to the body. Short elbows from Park and he drags him to the ground. Park looks to pass and rains down punches. Park has the Dagestani handcuffs and isn’t able to block the shots. Park keeps firing until referee Andy Social steps in to rescue Berry from any further damage.

Pro Featherweight Title Fight: Neal Anderson (10-3) vs. Maged Hammo (9-5)
Round 1: Hammo opens with a hook kick that falls short and they trade leg kicks. Anderson with a hard right and Hammo presses forward and lands a spinning back kick to the body. Hard body kick by Hammo lands and Anderson just misses the combo. Hammo presses forward and Anderson lands a knee to the body and a combo. Hammo connects and just missed another spinning kick up high. They exchange a flurry and Anderson with an inside leg kicks. Hammo gets the body lock and looks to drag the fight to the mat. Working now for a single and Anderson just avoids a back elbow. They separte and Anderson drops Hammo with a big knee and follows him to the ground. Anderson settles into the guard and works the body and chips away to the head. Anderson stands and kicks the leg and Hammo quickly pops back to his feet. Anderson drops him again with a right hand and lands a few more on the ground before time expires. MMA Empire scores round 10-9 Anderson
Round 2: Anderson front kick appears to land low but they fight on. Hammo with the flying scissor heel hook but can’t lock it in and transitions to a kneebar. Anderson spins free and ends up on top. Anderson looking for the Kimura but Hammo rolls through twice to free himself. Anderson switches to a triangle but again Hammo is able to escape. Hammo takes the back but Anderson is able to get free and Hammo is in side control before Anderson gets to full guard. Anderson looking for rubber guard and drives a handful of elbows to the head. Hammo is able to push through the rubber guard and Anderson controlling the wrist and gets an omoplata. Hammo winces and escapes and Anderson switches to an arm-triangle. Hammo AGAIN escapes and is now looking for a guillotine but now Anderson is able to pull his head free and the round expires. Easily the round of the night so far. Round 3: Anderson pressing the action and looking to land and a hard body kick. Hammo answers with a right and looks for the body lock but Anderson lands a knee and reverses the takedown to full guard. Anderson landing to the body and Hammo trying to fire back from below. Anderson attempting to posture up but Hammo holding him close and controls the wrist. Anderson pulls his hand back and lands to the body. Anderson still chipping away and Hammo stuck against the cage. Anderson able to get some separation and land some elbows. Round 4: We’re into the championship rounds and they trade shots before Anderson lands a head kick. Anderson with a flurry against the cage. Hammo with a trio of uppercuts to the body and Anderson responds with a right. Anderson with a pair of leg kicks and a hard jab. Anderson starting to land more consistently and Hammo with a little combo of his own. Hammo with the takedown and passes to side control with a couple chipping elbows. Hammo secures the crucifix but Anderson scrambles to his knees. Hammo looking for the guillotine but Anderson is able to fight it off. Hammo staples the arm and goes back to the guillotine. Hammo moves to mount but still can’t finish it. Hammo takes the back and is able to sink the rear-naked choke. Anderson guts it out for as long as he can but ultimately is forced to tap.

Pro Light Heavyweight: KB Bhullar (8-2) vs. Anton Tokarchuk (4-5)
Round 1: Bhullar opens up with a steady diet of leg kicks and Tokarchuk responds with one of his own and another solid one. Bhullar absolutely punishing Tokarchuks legs with thudding shots. Stiff left jab lands for Bhullar and a combo back from Tokarchuk. Bhullar with a body shot and catches a leg kick before landing one of his own. Big rights landing from Bhullar and a hard leg kick. Tokarchuk eating shots as he presses forward and catches a head kick before it can land. Tokarchuk with some awkward looping punches that miss the mark. Both men trading shots and a hard leg kick briefly throws Bhullar off balance but he recovers quickly. They clinch and trade some dirty boxing and the round comes to an end. Round 2: Tokarchuk trying to work his way inside and eats a jab before landing a leg kick. Hard leg kick in response from Bhullar. Tokarchuk coming forward with awkward strikes but can’t find the mark. Bhullar gets the clich and lands a few shots and a leg kick shortly thereafter. Tokarchuk lands a leg kick but doesn’t follow up. Inside leg kick from Bhullar, pawing jabs and a decent right. Tokarchuk looks to land but mostly blocked by Bhullar. Bhullar connects with a right and an inside leg kick. Bhullar lands a combo and Tokarchuk mostly just waving his arms around. Round 3: Bhullar landing some rights and Tokarchuk wildly trying to respond without success. Hard jab from Bhullar and Tokarchuk responds. Bhullar with a swinging leg kick and circles away from Tokarchuk who can’t catch up to him to land. They trade and tie up against the cage before Bhullar breaks free. Inside leg kick and a right from Bhullar. Big overhand right from Tokarchuk. Bhullar continues to circle away and land chipping shots and Tokarchuk connects. Pro Super-Lightweight: Nick Hrabec (7-5) vs. Kolton Menzak (7-5)
Round 1: Hrabec with a body kick to open and they feel each other out. Hrabec looks for the flying knee but doesn’t get all of it. Hrabec with the calf kick and goes up high but it’s blocked. Hrabec lands a front kick to the body and a massive right that put stuns Menzak. The second right knocks Menzak to the mat and a pair of follow up shots put him out cold before referee Luke Boutin can step in.

Pro Super-Lightweight: Andrew Mavridis (0-0) vs. Tyler VanKill (1-0)
Round 1: Vankill with the immediate flurry and Mavridis answers right back. VanKill presses him into the cage and they battle for position. VanKill muscles him to the mat and lands some heavy shots from the back. VanKill has the hooks in and lands shots in an attempt to open up the choke. VanKill flattens him out and rains down shots. VanKill with the body triangle and continues to chip away as Mavridis tries to stand. VanKill still has the back and sinks an arm-triangle from the back and puts Mavridis to sleep.

Pro Middleweight: Ali Charkie (0-0) vs. Lorenzo Celis (1-0)
Round 1: Charkie keyed up to start and lands a leg kick. Big right and a single for Charkie and Celis able to stay vertical. They tie up and Charkie with the strong body lock takedown to half guard and lands a trio of rights. Charkie continues to chip away and Celis attempts to get back to his feet. Charkie pulls the legs back out and stays on top. Charkie ties up the legs but Celis is able to free them. Charkie postures and lands and chants rain out from the crowd for Charkie. Celis trying to work to his feet and Charkie lands big rights and keeps him grounded. Celis working for a kimura and the scramble sees Charkie take full mount. Round 2: Celis lands to open the round and clamps onto a guillotine attempt as Charkie shoots in. Charkie is able to free himself and pass to half guard. Celis looked like the fresher fighter to start the round but Charkie is still able to gain control and drive him into the cage. Charkie looks like he wants an arm-triangle but the cage is blocking him from passing to the correct side. Charkie landing chipping shots but not nearly the power or output of round 1. Charkie seems content to maintain control from the top with the occasional right hand. Celis has slowly shrimped his way to his corner but Charkie postures and lands some hard shots. Round 3: The doctor enters to check on Celis at the beginning of the final round and allows the fight to continue. Celis with a jab and stuffs a takedown from Charkie. Charkie comes right back with the single and Celis looking to isolate the arm but loses it and Charkie takes side control. Celis using the cage to try to stand and Charkie knees the thigh. Celis back to vertical and Charkie takes the back and drags him down. Charkie gets the arm trapped and moves to the back. Celis fires an elbow backwards. Celis again looking to take the arm but Charkie gets free. Celis to his feet and once again Charkie brings him back to the mat. Pro Lightweight: Tyrell Giselbrecht (0-0) vs. Jerico MacPhee (1-0)
Round 1: Both men straight to the action looking to land. Giselbrecht with a leg kick and presses forward for the takedown. MacPhee looking for the single and eats about ten hard elbows to the side of the head. MacPhee still fighting hard for the takedown and eats a big knee to the body. Giselbrecht hammers away as MacPehee not giving up on the single leg. Giselbrecht pounds away on MacPhee as he’s down on his hands and knees. Giselbrecht doesn’t let up for a second and forces referee Andy Social to step in for our first TKO of the evening.

Round 1: Piercey immediately lands a huge combo that drops Ali to the mat. Piercey rains down punches but Ali survives. Piercey looks for the d’arce choke but Ali is able to gut it out. Ali hangs on to the legs and Piecey stands back up. They trade shots and Piercy lands a hard right. Ali throws but can’t find the range. Piercey with a leg kick and follows up with another. Ali looks for a combo but it falls short. {iercey unleashes a barrage of punches and Ali has no answer for it. Body kick for Piercey and lands another right. Piercey sticking the jabs and Ali cut on the cheek. Piercey with a kick to the body. Both men land and Piercey connects again and sticks a jab and some pawing shots for the remainder of the round. Round 2: Big left from Piercey to open the round and Ali looks to land a combo. Piercey connects and Ali covers up. Piercey keeps firing but Ali able to stay on his feet. Piercey with a leg kick and lands a big counter right. Ali showing the effects of the striking from Piercey bloodied up from the nose now as well. Piercey also with a cut by the left eye. Ali with a solid combo that connects but can’t follow up. Body kick from Piercey and Ali with a pawing jab. Piercey connects and following with a leg kick. Round 3: At the start of the round referee Luke Boutin has the doctor check the cuts on Ali. We’re clear to resume and the third round begins. Ali opens with a jab and Piecry with a kick to the body and a 1-2 while backing up. Both men trading and landing big shots and Piercey follows up with another. Ali with another combo and a big overhand right from Piercey. Piercey with a body kick and ducks a combo from Ali. Piercey with a big three-punch counter combo. Both men trade stiff jabs and Ali with a combo that lands. Ali lands a colid right and Piercey with a hard right that briefly stuns Ali. Piercey beginning to land again. Round 1: They feel each other out as both ladies look to find their range. They clash with leg kicks and Clark lands a combo, gets the Thai clinch and lands a knee to the body. They jockey for position and trade shots. Both ladies clash with leg kicks and Marchand with a big leg kick, right-hand combo. They trade solid leg kicks and both are being cautious. They tie up and exchange uppercuts. Clark with a pair of knees and they battle for position. More knees from Clark and they trade punches. MMA Empire scores round 10-9 Clark
Round 2: They clash with leg kicks and Clark with another but eats a right as she presses forward. Another leg kick and a combo from Marchand in response. Clark pressing forward and looking to land. Marchand gets some separation and they trade shots. Clark puts her back on the cage and lands knees and uppercuts. Big right and more solid knees right up the middle. They separate and Clarke presses forward and Marchand wraps up the head looking for a guillotine but it’s no threat. Clark pushes her to the mat and lands to the body. Every time Marchand postures to try to get back to her feet, Clark lunges forward with another brutal kick. Round 1: Bell opens with a leg kick and a big barrage of punches from Wiles. They tie up and tumble to the mat with Wiles landing on top in the guard. Wiles stands and passes to full mount and works to control the hands. Bell tries to buck him off but Wiles keeps top pressure. Wiles maintaining top position but not landing or threatening with submissions. They trade punches to the body and Wiles is warned for a punch to the head which is not permitted under these amateur rules. Bell is able to get his half guard back and gets to his knees. Round 2: Both men trade hard right hands and Wiles looks for the single against the cage. Wiles lands in side control and traps the arm in the crucifix. Bell working to stand against the cage but Wiles spins to his back and looks for the choke. Bell defends well and Wiles flattens him out and tenderizes the body Wiles working to get his arm under the chin but Bell gets to his back and Wiles is now in full mount. Round 3: Wiles lands and Bell answers back and now both men are slugging away but Wiles settles it down and presses him against the cage. They battle for position briefly, trade a few more and Wiles gets the double to full guard. Wiles stands and looks to clear the legs but Bell doing well to keep the distance. Wiles finally drops back down and takes the back as Bell tries to scramble up. Wiles lands to the body in an attempt to open up the neck. Bell to his knees and Wiles stays on the back but can’t threaten with the rear-naked choke as Bell is defending the hands well. Bell scrambles back to his feet just as time expires. Round 1: Pangilinan with a barrage of leg kicks to start and Deol answers with a combo and pushes him up against the cage. They jockey for position and Deol looks for the takedown and lands a knee to the groin. A short pause in the action and we’re back at it. Pangilinan with a kick to the body and Deol again pushes him to the cage and gets the takedown. Pangilinan looking to wall walk back to his feet but Deol stays heavy and works to side control briefly. They’re back up and Pangilinan looks to lands. They trade shots and Pangilinan looking to kick the legs. Both men with big looping shots at the bell. MMA Empire scores round 10-9 Deol
Round 2: Deol pawing wth jabs and Pangilinan with a leg kick. Deol ties him up and they end up on the cage battling for position. Deol with the hip toss to side control but Pangilinan able to regain guard. Deol drives him to the cage but Pangilinan works back to his feet and gets the body lock to take Deol to the mat. Pangilinan looking for the guillotine but Deol moves to the side and pulls his head free. Deol works to the back and sinks his hooks but he’s falling off to the side. He re-establishes the choke and works to get the arm under the chin. Pangilinan fighting the hands and is able to survive the last 20 seconds. MMA Empire scores round 10-9 Deol
Round 3: Deol quickly shoots for the takedown and gets it to full guard. Deol slowly drives his back to the cage and lands to the body. Pangilinan climbing his legs high for the triangle but Deol is able to avoid it. Pangilinan trying to shrimp away to work back to his feet but Deol is like a wet blanket. Pangilinan turning to his stomach and Deol is warned for a knee to the spine area. Deol works to full mount and pounds at the body until the final bell. MMA Empire scores round 10-9 Deol

Amateur Featherweight: Alexander Krutskykh (0-1) vs. Leo Bonin (0-1)
Round 1: We start our first round of MMA action in Edmonton in over 18 months and both men begin throwing bombs immediately. After a solid 30 seconds of Rock-em-Sock-em Robots they tie up and Bonin looks for the takedown but Kruts is able to reverse and land in full guard. Krutskykh drops back for a heel hook but Bonin is able to defend and transitions to the back. Krutskykh gets to his feet but Bonin muscles him back down and takes the back. Bonin locks in the body triangle and works for the choke but Krutskykh fights the hands. Bonin really working for it and Krutskykh is in trouble but not giving in. Bonin stays on it like a dog on a bone and forces the tap as he goes belly down.
